Most young men of my generation grew up with toys identical. There was the obligatory wrist Man (I referring to the action figure of course), Transformer goods and Star Wars figurines. There was, however, a toy that inspires almost fanatical devotion that only rivals for the love of the opposite sex for Barbie. The toy in question was, of course, Action Man

Some of my classmates enjoyed the same wealth of weapons human action, some were surprised by their gadgets and gizmos. A rather strange boy was still fascinated by the feel of African hair as short. To me, the attraction was the vehicle he was driving the man of action, a big jeep.

Not just any ordinary or Jeep. There were huge rubber wheels, a kind of roll-cage structure was adorned with rocket launchers and other weapons. Much to my regret, as I grew older I realized a vehicle of this nature merely the stuff of fantasy. However, the enduring image of the Jeep has stuck with me since childhood.

The Jeep Patriot is the model in question today and is far from the image I had of this vehicle as a child. Gone is the deployment of the cage and windowless car of my youth (there are also no weapons to be seen). What is clear is an alarming amount of the class … good …. These days the Jeep appears to conform more to the middle class, aspirational lifestyle more than the rough terrain and ready to conquer giants that these vehicles were originally designed for.

The phenomenon of school term has angered 4X4 a large proportion of the population, just because the whole exercise seems incredibly wasteful. Picture the scene, a large gas-MPV drinking with the only a mother and a toddler, coughing out CO2 all over the place. Now multiply this effect by 500, blow down in a traffic jam and you run Middle School in one of the thousands of schools in this country. No wonder people get annoyed. But let's not get bogged down in semantics, we have to judge these 4×4 on its own merits.

As previously mentioned, the Jeep Patriot is a lot more class than the Jeep name suggests. They seem to have had all the rough edges smoothed for more acceptable to modern tastes, but has lost none of the vim and energy associated with the Jeep brand. In fact, I did not expect a brisk walk of a vehicle the magnitude of the Jeep.

Among the arsenal of equipment Jeep Patriot is ABS, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Panic Brake Assist, Side curtain airbags, Tire alloy, halogen lights and air conditioning. This suggests that this particular vehicle, will be a comfortable and safe vehicle to drive. The handling is correct and feels light for the size of the Patriot. Combine this with the willing engine that handles almost any task outside the road you can reach a lot more with the grace of what many of its direct competitors.

In summary, the Jeep is worth use off the road because this is what is primarily designed for. The tragedy is that they spend most of their working lives Sat, whether in the jam of cars waiting to drop the kids, or parked in a supermarket car park waiting to be filled with pate de foie gras and exotic coffee blends. Only justice can serve if it breaks through a farmer's fence and the Patriot razz around like a banshee. Then (and only then) will witness of what this machine is really capable of.
