Country legend Dolly Parton will return to Birmingham on 2 July 2008. On tour in support of their new album Backwood Barbie, the star will be playing some of his greatest new songs. However, she is forced to play some old hits from his extensive catalog of more than 3,000 songs too, including songs like I Will Always Love You, Joshua, coat of many colors, from 9 to 5, love is like a butterfly, and Jolene.
Born on 19 January 1946 in Sevierville, Tennessee, Dolly was the fourth of 12 children. The family grew "extremely poor" in the Great Smoky Mountains and lived together in a rustic cabin in the room. Dolly's parents parishioners were concerned, and the country star was exposed to lots of music as part of services. Today, still performs a series of spiritual songs in their live sets.
Dolly began singing as a child and appeared on local radio and countless television shows. When he was 21, she decided moving to Nashville in order to pursue a music career full time. It started in the city as a songwriter, writing hits for stars like Hank Williams, Jr. and Skeeter Davis.
In 1967, Dolly joined the cast of a syndicated country television show, organized by the legendary Porter Wagoner. Wagoner and Parton is on the famous, and Dolly worked with him for seven happy years. During this time, Wagoner convinced his label, RCA, to sign Dolly, and the couple gave released a number of country duets together. After leaving Wagoner's television show, Dolly embarked on a full time career as a solo star and has never looked back.
Since then, Dolly has been included in the Hall of Fame, Country Music, and she has had a record 25 songs reach the No. 1 on the Billboard Country Music. She also had a huge 41 Top 10 Albums country and has received numerous awards for his work.
Besides his career as a singer, Dolly is a literacy activist and author. She has also acted in several films including the Oscar-nominated 9 to 5, who also wrote the song for. The film was a huge success and Dolly is working on the music and lyrics for a Broadway version of it.
Despite their other projects, it is clear that music is Dolly's first love, and she remains a true country superstar.
Dolly will be presented at the National Indoor Arena (NIA), part of the Birmingham National Exhibition Center (NEC) complex. Although the NIA is generally used for concerts and other entertainment events the NEC it is traditionally used for conferences and corporate functions.
The Dolly Parton tickets are priced at £ 65.00, £ 60.00 and 50.00 pounds, and are subject to booking fee.
